Synopsis and Discussion

Light precipitation currently falling in the western and northern sections of the Piedmont is expected to dissipate this evening, allowing for weak high pressure to build across the area. Winds are expected to stay generally calm through tonight, allowing for particle pollution levels to remain in the upper Code GREEN range. The ridge of high pressure will continue to hold across the state tomorrow, as the area remained sandwiched between an area of low pressure over Florida and a weak upper level trough in the northeastern United States. Thus, particle pollution levels will likely remained unchanged for Thursday, with increasing southerly flow in the afternoon keeping air quality Code GREEN. Southwest winds begin to pick up ahead of an approaching cold front front he west on Friday, with the increase in dispersion keeping particle pollution levels in the middle to upper Code GREEN range. The cold front and its associated showers pass through the Triad during the day Saturday, and a colder and cleaner air mass moving in behind it should drop air quality levels into the low to middle Code GREEN range.
