The following is a press release from the NC State Board of Elections.

RALEIGH, N.C - The State Board of Elections released a new public service announcement designed to educate voters on the 2016 voter Id requirements.

The “Be Recognized” ads will air on local television and radio through the 2016 Election cycle, the goal is to make sure every voice is heard at the voting booth. This election voters will be asked to show a photo ID at the polls. If for some reason a voter can’t get an ID, they will still be able to vote.

Photo ID is not required to vote by mail-in absentee, and exceptions are available for voters who cannot obtain photo ID.

“No voter will be turned away from the polls because they lack acceptable photo ID,” said Executive Director Kim Westbrook Strach.
