How Did That Get on the Shelf?

With so many books published each year, how does the Library choose which titles to purchase and add to the collection? Well, that’s the job of our Collection Development Manager who coordinate material purchasing for the library. A fancy way of saying she reads through book review publications, publisher emails, catalogs, etc. and chooses what she thinks you, our customers, will want to read in the next week, month, and year. However, there more to it than simply reading reviews.

Central Library Construction Update

Recently the Library, in partnership with the Center for Design Innovation, offered two, one-day maker workshops for teens. The workshops blended the art of storytelling with the creative potential of 3D technology and additional maker activities to tell stories through masks.

Library Begins Storytime for Developmentally Delayed Children

Eight year old Miseal Garcia is a kid in a candy shop as he takes in the new look of the children’s area at the Carver School Road Branch Library. Miseal quickly zeros in on an interactive children’s computer where he finds La Casa de Dora, one of his favorite games. It’s “game on” as he leans forward peering intently into the monitor, the rhythmic click, click of the mouse punctuating the air as he plays.
