Monster Movie Matinees at Central Library

Please join us in the Central Library Auditorium on Tuesday afternoons for this series of Monster Movie Matinees.

"Frankenstein"
Sept. 25 at 2:30 pm.

A scientist creates a living being out of human body parts, and the monster is misunderstood and feared. Based on the novel by Mary Shelley. 1931. Starring Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, and Mae Clarke. Directed by James Whale.

"Bride of Frankenstein"
Oct. 2 at 2:30 pm.

Dr. Frankenstein is persuaded to create a mate for his monster, but things don't go as planned. Inspired by the novel "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. 1935. Starring Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Elsa Lanchester and Valerie Hobson. Directed by James Whale.

"The Invisible Man"

A scientist discovers a formula that makes him invisible, but it soon renders him a dangerous madman. Based on the novel by H. G. Wells. 1933. Starring Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart. Directed by James Whale.

"Gods and Monsters"

Retired film director James Whale, who is known for the original "Frankenstein" movie, "The Bride of Frankenstein," and "The Invisible Man," is almost forgotten in Hollywood. Though he lives comfortably, he dwells on some troubling memories from his past, and then he develops a friendship with his gardener. Based on the novel by Christopher Bram. Rated R for sexuality and language. 1998. Starring Ian McKellan, Brendan Fraser and Lynn Redgrave. Directed by Bill Condon. Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
