Since July is right in the middle of summer vacation, the challenge this month will be to read a book that has a beach setting. (The whole book doesn’t have to be at the beach, but at least part of it does.) Some authors like Nancy Thayer and Dorothea Benton Frank have quite a few novels with beach settings, but you don’t have to read a romance novel. Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” ends on a beach and Peter Benchley’s “Jaws” is set on a beach as well. Ask a librarian if you need suggestions.
How do scientists explore “icy worlds” in the outer solar system? Join us at the Clemmons Branch Library on Monday, July 22 at 2 p.m. to explore “icy planets” and see what secrets they hold. We may get messy so be prepared. This program is intended for ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome to attend.
It’s ALIVEEEE! Or is it? Join us at Clemmons Branch Library on Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. to define what makes something alive and perform an experiment to find signs of life in three cups of sand.
