Web on Wheels Bookmobile Debuts

The Forsyth County Public Library has started service of a new bookmobile dedicated to narrowing the digital divide by widening access to technology resources, training and education in underserved communities of Forsyth County. The W.O.W. (Web On Wheels) unit will offer on-site training courses, access to the Internet and access to technology devices such as electronic tablets and laptop computers to assist in online job searches and job applications, educational research and overall technological learning.

The W.O.W. mobile will also play a key role in early childhood literacy efforts in Forsyth County as it travels weekly and occasional weekends to early childhood learning centers and other other human service agencies where children and adults can check out books and AV materials. Library staff will also provide training, education, and access to technology resources at these stops.

The W.O.W mobile has five flip-down tables and chairs installed along the walls for computer training and Internet access. It also comes equipped with a wheelchair lift for anyone requiring assistance entering the unit.

Our W.O.W. (Web On Wheels) mobile was funded in part by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
