Summer Reading Programs For Kids and Teens at Walkertown!

Summer Reading Programs for Children and Teens at Walkertown Branch Library - June & July 2017

Storytime Ages 0-5 --- Every Tuesday, 10:30 am
Music & Movement Ages 0-5 --- Every Thursday, 10:30 am

Saturdays, June 10th & July 8th at 4 pm-----Crafty Saturday
Come to the library for an hour of crafts! Children age 8-11 are invited to tap into their creative side with a guided craft session. All materials and directions are provided, and you can take your creation home with you!

Mondays, June 12th & July 17th at 6 pm-----Read to a Dog!
Children age 3-11 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading to a sweet therapy dog. Bring along a book of your choice, or ask a librarian for one when you arrive. Please call or visit the circulation desk to register for a 10-minute time slot.

Mondays, June 19th & July 24th at 6 pm-----Play in the Dirt!
Children age 5-7 are encouraged to get involved in planting and tending to this year’s Children’s Learning Garden at the library! We will meet rain or shine for some fun gardening activities. Please call or visit the circulation desk to register.

Wednesdays, June 21st and July 19th at 4 pm-----Power to the Youths! Teen Book Club
Not your Mom's book club! Join the club that was created especially for young adult readers age 13-17. Books are available for checkout 3 weeks before the next meeting. Come ready to discuss the book, do activities, and SPEAK YOUR MIND!!!!

Thursday, June 22nd at 11 am-----Tangle of Tales Puppet Show
Join us at the library for a special production of Tangle of Tales with Grey Seal Puppets. Three classic folktales from around the world will come to life! Kids of all ages are welcome to attend. For more information please call 336-703-2990.

Friday, June 23rd at 1 pm-----Photography Workshop for Teens
Have you ever wanted to learn more about photography? Want to try your hand at a real photo shoot? Or, experiment with developing photographs in a darkroom? Teens age 13-17 are invited to do just that, for free, at the library!

Monday, June 26th at 11 am-----Kid’s Yoga
Children of all ages and their parents are invited to a special yoga session just for kids! Please bring a mat if you have one and come enjoy the health benefits of yoga with certified instructor Lisa Kushner. Please call or visit the circulation desk to register.

Wednesdays, June 28th & July 26th at 3 pm-----Get Hooked! Teen Knit and Crochet Club
The yarn arts aren't just for Grandma! Come learn the basics or bring your current project. We will have a limited supply of tools for beginners to learn. Both beginner and advanced stitchers welcome!

Wednesday, June 28th at 10:30 am-----“Oh the Places We Live” for Kids
Join us for a special storytime presented by the Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forest University. We’ll be reading “If You Lived Here” by Giles LaRoche and learning about the different houses that people live in around the world. Children will create a collage of their dream home to take home with them.

Friday, June 30th at 3 pm-----Animal Architects! with the NC Zoo
Animals can be amazing architects! Through hands-on animal artifacts, lots of visuals and a live animal or two, we will discover some of the creative ways animals build their homes, nests or community housing!

Friday, July 7th at 3 pm-----Teen Yoga

Monday, July 10th at 1 pm-----The Professor Whizzpop Magic Show!
Come to a Professor Whizzpop Magic Show at the library! Join us and the hapless Professor Whizzpop, whose myriad of mishandled magic provides giggles galore as the Professor gets nearly everything wrong, and the kids in the audience help to make everything right!

Wednesday, July 19th at 1 pm-----Pointillism Class with Dot Duggins
Children and Young Adults are invited to learn to paint in this classic style that uses small dots of color to create a beautiful image. Join local artist, Dot Duggins and take your creation home after the class!

Wednesday, July 26th at 1 pm-----“Let’s Build” for Teens
Join us for a special workshop presented by the Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forest University. Teens will learn about and look at unique structures and materials from around the world. Using a variety of materials, participants can build their own fantastic structures.

Friday, July 28th at 2 pm-----The Balloon Lady
Come and see everyone’s favorite balloon twister this summer at the library! Marvel at all of the amazing creations of Winston-Salem’s own Balloon Lady!
