Solid and Hazardous Waste Management

Solid waste services vary depending on where you live in Forsyth County.

If you live in one of the townships of Forsyth County, please contact the Town Hall for a listing of solid waste services available to you. Some of the towns provide recycling, some provide bulky item pick up and yard waste pick up at scheduled times.

Landfills: Information about Landfills in Forsyth County can be found on the City of Winston-Salem website. This website also contains information about the Yard Waste and Recycling programs run by the City of Winston-Salem.

Recycling: Forsyth County has two convenience centers for recycling. One is located in Kernersville on Lindsay Street and the other is on Yadkinville Road in Vienna at the old Fire Station. Recyclables may also be taken to the Hanes Mill Rd landfill recycling collection area.

Household Hazardous Waste: The 3RC collection center for household hazardous waste and materials is located on Martin Luther King Blvd. across from Bowman Gray Stadium and is available to all Forsyth County residents, free of charge.

Garbage Collection Service: Outside the incorporated townships, Forsyth County is divided into 15 franchised garbage collection areas served by five garbage collection companies who contract with residents and businesses to provide weekly collection service. There is a fee for this service and rates are determined by the County Commissioners. To find out who serves your area, call 703-3145. There is also a way that you can find out who collects your garbage on the Forsyth County website using GeoData Explorer, the interactive GIS tool. If you’ve never used Geo-Data Explorer, click here for the steps involved.

Bulky item pick up is not provided in the County as part of the residential waste collection but may be offered as a separate service with your franchised garbage hauler.

Residents are encouraged to report incidents of unauthorized dumping to the Division of Environmental Health as well as any suspected dumping of hazardous chemicals or wastes.
