On December 7, 2023, Deputy C. Conrad responded to an assist agency call with Forsyth County Emergency Medical Services regarding an emotionally disturbed 14-year-old female. The initial information indicated that the juvenile was acting aggressively and had a knife to her throat. In a situation that demanded compassion, quick thinking, and empathy, Deputy Conrad demonstrated exceptional professionalism and saved a life. Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Conrad engaged with the distressed juvenile, finding her in a highly volatile state. Maintaining composure, he initiated a dialogue, empathizing with her situation. She expressed feelings of isolation and a belief that her family did not want her around. Deputy Conrad skillfully conveyed the gravity of her actions, emphasizing that her struggles were temporary and that a permanent solution was not the answer. Through his patience, empathy, and experienced communication, Deputy Conrad successfully convinced the juvenile to drop the knife. His actions not only prevented a potential tragedy but also facilitated the young girl's transportation to a medical facility. Deputy Conrad's quick thinking, empathy, and effective communication undoubtedly played a pivotal role in saving a life that night.
