2017 Tax Listing Period Begins January 1, 2017

On January 1, 2017, the annual property tax listing period begins. Listing forms were mailed on December 30, 2016 to individuals and businesses who listed personal property last year. Owners of real estate do not receive listing forms. Real property does not need to be listed unless improvements/demolitions or changes in ownership have occurred in 2016. All property owners are required by N.C.G.S. 105-285 to list any personal property owned as of January 1st and/or report any changes that have been made to real estate during the prior year. It is also an opportunity to correct any errors on personal information, names, mailing addresses, or request an application for Tax Relief.

Personal property items that should be listed include: manufactured (mobile) homes, vehicles without an active annual NC registration(untagged), trailers/vehicles with multi-year, permanent tags or IRP plates, watercraft, campers, ATV’s, farm tractors, horse tack and carriages. If you have a question whether an item should be listed, please contact Tax Customer Care at 336-703-2300.

N.C.G.S. 105-307(a) states that the listing period runs through January 31, 2017. Personal property that is listed after the listing period ends will be considered late and will be subject to a 10% penalty.

If you did not receive a listing form in the mail and have personal property, business personal property, or real estate improvements to list, forms are available for print from our website, or may be requested by calling 336-703-2300. More information about tax relief and application forms are also available on the tax website. Individual Personal Property and Real Estate Improvements may also be listed electronically through eNoticesOnline with an authorization code.

Signed and completed forms may be mailed to: Forsyth County Tax Administration, P. O. Box 757, Winston-Salem, NC 27102 or delivered to the Forsyth County Tax Administration Office located on the 1st floor of the Forsyth County Government Center at 201 North Chestnut Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
