The First Thursday Friends of the Carver School Road Branch

Every meeting of the First Thursday Friends of the Carver School Road Branch Library offers a different focus with something new and inspiring to take part in. Some of the previous topics and activities have included: “Seniors Going Green” where a guest speaker from The Forsyth County Environmental Affairs Department shared useful information on ways to recycle and to conserve energy; “Financial Literacy for Seniors,” “Eat Smart, Move More,” and “Safety for Seniors” where a Law Enforcement Officer shared tips to help protect themselves and secure their environment.

The group has also hosted classes from an area school to “Revisit the Color Line” with a panel of guests including a judge, retired educators and business persons; they held a “Mad Hatters Tea” where everyone participated by wearing their favorite hat (or designing one) and shared their favorite hat story or remembrance. Each season they attend several of the “James A. Gray Lecture Series” programs at Winston- Salem State University and host an annual Christmas Social. The First Thursday Friends also serve as a Reader’s Advisory sharing the titles of the latest books they’ve read.

Come join us at 11:00 am on the First Thursday of each month at the Carver School Road Branch Library and remember to bring a friend. For more information please call 703-2910.
