Forsyth County Eligible to Receive Grant Funds

Forsyth County and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office are eligible to apply for and receive grant funds awarded through the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The JAG Program, administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions and supports a range of program areas including law enforcement, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, crime victim and witness initiatives, and planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs.

All JAG allocations (eligibility information) are calculated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) based on the statutory JAG formula and displayed on BJA's JAG web page each fiscal year (FY). Refer to the JAG Technical Report for a detailed step-by-step breakdown of the JAG award calculation process.

The 2015 JAG allocation to Forsyth County is $155,272, which will be shared equally by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Sheriff’s Office intends to use its portion for the purchase of body-worn digital cameras for sworn law enforcement personnel.
