Summer Reading Programs for Children at the Lewisville Branch Library

Summer Reading Programs:

Family Storytime
Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. in June and July

Stories, rhymes, songs and activities. Recommended for children aged 18 months - 5 years and their caregivers, but all ages are welcome.

Reading Buddies
Mondays at 2 p.m. from June 17- July 29

Children are paired with teen volunteers to work on their reading skills. They read together for 20 minutes. Call 336-703-2940 to register for a time slot.

Lego Book Club
Saturday, June 15 at 11 a.m.
Theme: Space
Recommended for ages 5-11 (younger siblings welcome).

Children share a favorite book that they have read and then build Lego creations based off of their books. Children may bring a book to share on the theme or just one they love. The books do not have to be about LEGOs or LEGO characters.

Lewisville Fire Department Visit
Tuesday, June 18 at 9:30 a.m.
Located at G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center

Meet the Lewisville Fire Department's brave firefighters and see their fire truck! The firemen will show and explain their equipment and discuss fire safety. This program is for everyone, so bring the whole family! The fire truck will be parked at the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center across from the library on the parking lot side and the event will be held on the lawn of the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center.

Big Bang Boom: Children's Band
Tuesday, June 25 at 12 p.m.
Located at Shallowford Square Park

The band Big Bang Boom will be playing at the Shallowford Square Park in Lewisville, NC! Dancing, singing, and fun for all ages.

Sensory-Friendly LEGO Hour
Wednesday, June 26 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Build with Legos in a sensory-friendly and supportive environment. Recommended for ages 5-11. Please register in advance by calling 336-703-2940 or going to http://www.forsyth.cc/library/Lewisville/article.aspx?NewsID=23771.

Sensory-Friendly Family Movies
July 1 at 10 a.m.-“Space Buddies” (G)
July 8 at 10 a.m.- “Treasure Planet” (PG)
July 22 at 10 a.m.- “WALL-E”(G)
July 29 at 10 a.m.- “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” (PG)

Everyone is welcome at these sensory-friendly films. The movies will be shown in the Lewisville Branch Library's auditorium with low lighting (dim lights will remain on). The sound will be on but turned down so that it is not too loud. English subtitles will be turned on. You are free to move around and make noise during the films in a judgment-free zone. Families are permitted to bring their own snacks from home. You may bring blankets to lie on if you wish, but chairs will be provided. Please call 336-703-2940 for more information.

Meet Your Mayor
Wednesday, July 3 at 2 p.m.
Lewisville Branch Library
Participate in local government this summer by meeting Mayor of the Town of Lewisville, Mike Horn. Mike Horn will read your letters and answer your questions. Learn about the Town of Lewisville and how local government works. You may drop off letters for the mayor at the Lewisville Branch Public Library from June 24 until July 3.

Bright Star Theater Show: One Small Step
Friday, July 5 at 10 a.m.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of humankind landing on the moon! This tale marks the history of flight and space travel from the Wright Brothers at the beaches of Kitty Hawk to the moon and beyond! Recommended for ages 4-11.

K-9 Unit Visit
Tuesday, July 9 at 9:30 a.m.

This summer, some of the brave teams from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office's K-9 Unit are taking time out of their busy crime-fighting schedule to visit us at the Lewisville Branch Library to explain the work that they do. The police dogs of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office's K-9 Unit and their human partners track criminals, search for illegal drugs, and help make our city a safer place.

Go on an interactive journey to the moon, build a space colony and get ready to launch for Mars with the NASA Solar System Ambassador, Annette Horsley. For all ages.
