Alex Gordez: Spanish Guitar Music Concert at Walkertown

Alex Gordez will perform a free guitar concert at Walkertown Branch Library on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. His music combines contemporary Argentine tangos, modern jazz, Brazilian music and flamenco while incorporating his Jewish roots and favorite Romany styles.

Gordez is a guitar player, composer and music teacher with over 30 years of experience in music education, theater, live performance and studio environments. Gordez has been named one of the top five emerging artists in Raleigh-Durham by ReverbNation and No. 1 in the Latin music category.

He started playing classical guitar at the age of 11 and graduated from Glier Music College in Kiev, Ukraine as a jazz performer, arranger and composer specializing in guitar. In 1988, he debuted at the International Jazz Festival in Ukraine and then started touring and performing jazz and world music. At this time, he started thinking about how to infuse world music with a jazz vocabulary. In 1991, Gordez moved to Israel and became a part of the Gesher Theater Company where he explored the theatrical application of his original works. He moved to the United States 4 years later and currently lives in Raleigh, N.C. with his family.
