Online medical resources available at Forsyth County Public Library

We all have questions about our health, whether it's regarding the current COVID-19 health crisis or any other health concerns. The library has reliable health information available to you on our Online Resources page under the heading Health & Medicine. You will need your library card number and PIN to access these databases.

The Corona Virus Research Database gives you the latest information about our current COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other coronaviruses. Stay up to date with the latest research available through these curated open-access articles.

For general health information click the link for MedlinePlus or MedlinePlus Drugs & Supplements. These databases will give you good basic information about common diseases and conditions, prescription or over-the-counter medications, as well as herbal supplements. The Family Health Database gives you access to articles in magazines and journals that cover consumer health topics such as food and nutrition, sports injuries, eye care and dentistry, and women's health issues. Go Ask Alice is an interactive database that allows you to explore various health topics, and ask questions.

Some of the databases under the Health & Medicine heading offer information that is more academic or professional in nature. The Nursing & Allied Health Database provides access to journals and dissertations covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine. Also, CINAHL Plus with Full Text gives you access to conference proceedings, evidence-based care sheets, and continuing education modules. The Psychology Database provides articles on clinical and social psychology, covering such subjects as the psychology of business and economics, communication, addiction, criminology, neurology, and social welfare. The Sociology Database covers sociological and social work research such as the history and theory of sociology, social psychology, substance abuse and more.

And there is even more. CQ Researcher contains articles on current issues that affect our lives including health issues. The NC Health Info link will take you to quality health information and to lists of healthcare providers in the area. The Health Management Database provides research to support healthcare managers and administrators.

All of these resources are available to you on our Online Resources Page. Call the library for assistance at 336-703-3020.
