September's Reading Challenge

On September 5th the Library kicks off its 18th annual community read, On the Same Page, with “Speak No Evil” by Dr. Uzodinma Iweala. I would like to encourage everyone to give this powerful, award-winning novel a try. This novel covers so many timely issues, but I’d like to focus on one topic for this month’s reading challenge - the immigrant experience in America. There are a wide-array of great books that deal with the immigrant experience of many cultures over the history of our nation - “The Joy Luck Club,” “My Antonia,” “The Namesake,” “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” and “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” just to name a few. You can ask your librarian for other suggestions or check out the Library’s online catalog.

I hope you accept the FCPL September Reading Challenge and encourage your family and friends to try it too. Please let me know how it goes and if you get a chance, send me an email (fcpl.eg.requests@gmail.com) with the title of the book you read this month.

Happy Reading!
