Morning Tea Book Club at Walkertown Reads "The Great Gatsby" by Scott Fitzgerald, April 13

April’s Morning Tea Book Club selection is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1925 during the height of the wild and decadent Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby has become one of the most popular American novels of all time. Fitzgerald's novel of obsession, wealth, and excess was commercially unsuccessful during his lifetime. Today, The Great Gatsby is read by nearly every high school student and remains its publisher's most popular title. Haven't read it since high school? The Great Gatsby is worth a second look outside of a classroom setting for its critical commentary on Jazz Age society. A New York Times book review in 1925 described The Great Gatsby as "A curious book, a mystical, glamorous story of today." Minnesota-born Fitzgerald partly based the novel on personal experience as he became a frequent attendee of the raucous parties held in the mansions off the coast of Long Island. The book is available at the library for checkout.

The Walkertown Library Morning Tea Book Club meets on Thursday, Thursday, April 13, 11 am. Tea and light refreshments will be served at the book discussion.
