The Forsyth County register of deeds office manages records for births, deaths and marriages that took place in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Copies may be requested by in person, by mail or online. If it's convenient, come to our office in the Forsyth County Government Center. 201 N Chestnut Street, Winston Salem. Our hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. To mail your request and pay by money order print our Copy Request Form. To order online using a credit card visit the Permitium website.

Walk-in customers must present valid identification for certified copies. North Carolina law stipulates that only direct relatives may receive certified copies. This includes a spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, sibling, grandparent and grandchild.

Mail requests for certified copies must be notarized. Uncertified copies do not require notarization.

We accept CASH ONLY at our office. For requests by mail, payment must be by money order or certified check. To order online, a credit card is required. See our fees page for current pricing.

Marriage Licenses

A marriage license may be obtained from the Register of Deeds office in any county in North Carolina. The license is good for 60 days from the date of issue and a ceremony can be held in any location within North Carolina.
