-deleted-Yadkin River Commission

Purpose

For decades, the Yadkin River Valley remained essentially unchanged. Recently, however, the river has become the object of economic interests. It is now a magnet for new development and an increasingly important regional source of sand, bringing new treatment demands for drinking water and waste disposal. These issues are complicated by various municipal and county boundaries along the river. Residents in one county are often unaware of river-related plans in adjacent counties until they are affected by them. The Yadkin River Commission strives to overcome these problems by taking a cooperative regional approach to Yadkin Valley issues.
Blank Line
The purpose of the Yadkin River Commission is to focus on lands adjacent or proximate to the Yadkin River, to improve water quality, and to protect and enhance other significant economic, cultural, and natural attributes of the river corridor for the health, prosperity, education, pleasure, and enrichment of local citizens. The Commission is also intended to encourage cooperation and support among other Yadkin River basin counties to the mutual benefit of all.

Members

County Commissioners from Davie, Forsyth, Surry, and Yadkin Counties appoint citizens with a variety of public and private river interests to serve on this seven-member organization.
