Deputy Sheriff John T. Isenhour was struck by a motor vehicle on September 18, 2016 while performing his law enforcement duties. Deputy Isenhour succumbed to injuries on September 28, 2016.
Sergeant James Milton Johnson
Killed in the line of duty November 11, 2004
Sergeant Johnson, a reserve officer, was shot and killed attempting to subdue a
neighbor who had started shooting people in the neighborhood. During the same incident
another Deputy Sheriff was wounded and two civilians were killed by the gunman.
Captain Jack ("Red") Conrad Renigar
Killed in the line of duty May 30, 1975
While attempting to apprehend a suspect who had shot and killed a Davie County Sheriff's
Office Deputy, Reserve Captain Renigar was shot and killed. The suspect led Davie
and Forsyth County deputies on a vehicle chase. The suspect abandoned his vehicle
and fled on foot in the dark. Captain Renigar was shot by the suspect as he exited
his patrol vehicle to stop traffic from entering the search area.
Jack "Red" Renigar organized and was the first Captain of the Forsyth County Sheriff's
Deputy Sheriff Ernest Wilson Walters
Killed in the line of duty Feb. 23, 1966
Deputy Walters was shot and killed while serving a civil process. He had asked the
suspect to secure her dog to prevent it from getting out of the house. The woman
then retrieved a shotgun and killed Deputy Walters.
Deputy Sheriff T. N. Westmoreland
Killed in the line of duty April 26,1950
Deputy Westmoreland was stabbed to death while making an arrest.
Deputy Sheriff Jesse J. Styers
Killed in the line of duty January 13, 1935
Deputy Sheriff Jesse J. Styers lost control of his patrol vehicle while serving
civil papers in October of 1934. Deputy Styers succumbed to injuries sustained in
the accident three months later on January 13, 1935.
Deputy Sheriff Linder Newsome
Killed in the line of duty Feb. 23, 1929
Deputy Newsome was killed when his patrol car crashed. At the time of his death,
he was in a vehicle pursuit while chasing thieves. He had been with the Sheriff's
Office for 17 years.
Deputy Sheriff Carlos Holder
Killed in the line of duty April 14, 1923
Deputy Holder was shot and killed while questioning a group of seven young men about
money that had been stolen from a woman's purse. One of the men in the group drew
a .38 caliber pistol and fatally shot Deputy Holder in the chest. He was Forsyth
County’s first Deputy Sheriff to give his life in the performance of his duty.
