The Epic Journey of Apollo 11
Published 7/9/2019 by Jamie Stroble
Monday, July 22 at 6 p.m. at the Paddison Memorial Branch in Kernersville: In recognition of the historic moon landing, join us for an exciting presentation for all ages by NASA Ambassador Mike Lucas. Mr. Lucas narrates the story of the early years of NASA’s formation and the birth of the space race. A brief discussion of the contributions of Projects Mercury and Gemini is followed by the story of Apollo 11, the first lunar landing mission. Mr. Lucas examines the planning, development, construction, and transport of the enormous Saturn V rocket. From there the audience will relive the launch, Earth orbit, translunar journey, lunar orbit, and descent to touchdown. After a brief stay on the Moon, of course, the astronauts must get home. Return to Earth, splashdown and recovery complete the program. There will be ample time for Q&A following the presentation.
