On October 26, Sergeant S. M. Reid successfully tested for and passed the examination to become a Certified Crime Scene Analyst through the International Association for Identification (IAI). There are only ten Certified Crime Scene Analysts in North Carolina and 188 throughout the world. Currently two Crime Scene Investigators with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office hold this certification.

Four levels of crime scene certification are available through the IAI. They are Certified Crime Scene Investigator, Certified Crime Scene Analyst, Certified Crime Scene Reconstructionist, and Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst. Testing consisted of 300 questions with a time limit of 4 hours and a passing rate of at least 75%.
