On Thursday, May 18, 2023, a motorist was blocking an entire lane of travel in the 1800 block of Lewisville-Clemmons Rd. The vehicle was disabled to the point it could not be moved without the assistance of a tow truck. The young woman operating the vehicle was a single mother with two small children. She had just recently purchased the vehicle and had some work done to get it operable. It was apparent that she was struggling financially and would have difficulty paying for the tow and new repairs. A tow truck was called and arrived a short time later. The driver of the tow truck informed the young woman she would have to pay $125 before he would perform any work. The young woman would not have the $125 until she got paid the next day so she started making telephone calls in hopes of finding someone who could assist her. She was unable to find anyone to assist her so she contacted her employer who agreed to pay for the tow and garnish her wages on her next paycheck. After Sergeant Deweese heard this, he walked over to the tow truck driver and paid the $125 tow fee out of his own pocket. The young woman was overcome with emotion and thankfulness once she learned what Sergeant Deweese had unselfishly done for her. This act of kindness and generosity are what makes Sergeant Deweese deserving of this recognition.
