Get Your Discount Spay/Neuter Certificate!

Each year we see the result of pet over population in our community. From 2005 to 2008 the numbers of unwanted pets in Forsyth County is up approximately 7%. Most of this number is attributed to the intake of stray cats and unwanted litters of kittens. While the percentage is up we are not seeing this due largely to the current economic situation we are facing in our country. Animal Control is concerned of this upward trend of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.

Each year over 3,000 dogs and cats are turned over to the Forsyth County Animal Shelter by their owners/custodians. One out of three of these pets will be a puppy or kitten. The leading animal welfare organizations in the country have determined that spaying and neutering is a fundamental element of responsible pet ownership and the key to reducing the number of unwanted pets.

Resources are available to Forsyth County residents that range from low cost spay neuter surgeries at local spay neuter clinic to financial assistance for low income residents that could provide a free spay/neuter voucher. For those seeking information on low cost options or vouchers please contact the Animal Control Department at 703-2480.

Beginning February 1, 2009, and continuing through April 30, 2009, Forsyth County Animal Control and the Forsyth County Spay Neuter Clinic, as partners, have been conducting a pilot program offering discount certificates available to anyone who adopts or redeems a pet, or have adopted or redeemed a pet from our facility within the last year. These certificates discount 30% of the spay/neuter fee and will be offered for all unaltered pets currently living in their home. Certificates will be valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
