Bookmarks Presents Authors Kiera Cass and Megan Shepherd

Bookmarks, in association with the Forsyth County Public Library, will present an event for teens featuring Kiera Cass and Megan Shepherd as they talk about their new books, writing for teens, and their many inspirations.

Kiera Cass’s debut novel, The Selection has been described as “reality TV meets dystopian fairy tale.” Cass’ planned trilogy continues in The Elite and in two novellas The Prince and The Guard. Cass grew up in South Carolina and holds a degree in history from Radford University. She currently lives in Blacksburg, Virginia. Cass participated in Bookmarks’ 2012 Festival of Books; her book was named as the Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction in the Final Round of the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards.

Megan Shepherd is the author of The Madman’s Daughter, a New Voices Pick by the American Booksellers Association in 2013 and the #1 Most Requested Book of 2012 on Goodreads. Shepherd’s latest book, Her Dark Curiosity, is the second installment of the Gothic thriller series, this one inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Shepherd, who was a participant in the 2013 Festival of Books, grew up in the mountains of North Carolina inside her parents’ independent bookstore, Highland Books. Her first book was chosen as Book Club pick of the Month by Seventeen magazine and received a starred review in the School Library Journal.

This is the third event to be held this year in support of Bookmarks’ ten year anniversary. Bookmarks is a literary arts organization based in Winston-Salem whose vision is to create a community of passionate readers. This is achieved through Triad-based author events, an Authors in Schools program, which reached 5,000 students in 2013, and the largest annual free book festival in North Carolina.
