Free Spanish Language Class at Walkertown

A Spanish class for adults will be held at Walkertown Branch Library every Wednesday, 6 - 7 p.m. for Advanced students and 7 - 8 p.m. for Beginners. Susan Moretz, an experienced ESL and Spanish instructor, will be leading the class.

Susan Moretz has taught English as a second language for the last 25 years to both Spanish-speaking adults and children. Her most recent position has been as an ESL teacher for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Earlier in her career, she spent nearly a decade teaching elementary school Spanish from 1984 to 1992. She learned Spanish formally while studying in Spain. Additionally, she also learned through experience while teaching at Hall-Woodward Elementary School in Winston Salem to primarily Spanish-speaking students. Prior to teaching in Winston Salem, Ms. Moretz taught in Atlanta, Georgia as well as in St. Croix.

She teaches a neutral dialect, usable Spanish with a focus on communication and conversational abilities. According to Ms. Moretz, “Learning another language is also learning about another culture. It promotes cultural understanding. Learning a language can be easy for some people and difficult for others. Pronunciation can be especially difficult for adults with new sounds,” however she enjoys teaching adults because “you’re providing something they want, so they’re eager to learn!”

For this class, please bring a pencil or pen and notebook as well as a positive attitude.

The ongoing class is sponsored by the Friends of the Walkertown Library.
