The Business of Farming Workshop Series

North Carolina Cooperative Extension, along with the Davidson County Community College Small Business Center, will be hosting a “Business of Farming” series. This four-session series is aimed to help farmers treat their farm as a business. All sessions will be at 1 p.m. and will be held virtually through Zoom. You must pre-register individually for each session you want to attend.

Business Start-Up – January 7
Have you ever wondered what type of business structure is best for you? What are the steps you need to take to start up your small business? We will cover these topics in detail to help you start your business on the right track. Register for this session.

Categorizing Expenses – January 14
Have you ever wondered how to record your income and expenses so that you are ready for prepared to hand over your documents to your accountant so that they can prepare your tax return? Are you unsure what expenses you should be tracking? During this class, we will review income and expense tracking and specific types of deductions that are applicable to your business or farm. Register for this session.

Year-End Tax Planning – January 21
The better organized you are the easier it will be to prepare your tax return. During this class, we will review all documents that need to be filed for 2020 year-end as well as planning and organizing your documents for 2021 tax filing. A handout for potential tax deductions will be provided. Register for this session.

Accounting Systems – January 28
This class is for the business owners who want to learn how to track your income, expenses, and how to invoice clients utilizing various accounting systems. We will discuss options from utilizing Excel, Quickbooks Desktop, and Quickbooks Online. We will even discuss methods for file storage and manual tracking. Register for this session.
