Free Digital Trial of the "Winston-Salem Journal" and "Twin City Sentinel" until Apr. 15

You can access the historic "Winston-Salem Journal" (1898-1923) and the "Twin City Sentinel" (1885-1923) through the Historic North Carolina Digital Newspapers database in our "Online Resources" offerings. We also offer digital access to the "Winston-Salem Journal" through our Winston-Salem Journal 1997-Present database.

While these databases offer a wealth of information, there is a large period of time not available through our digital newspapers, between the years 1923 and 1997 to be exact. Major events of the 20th Century happened between these years including the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, the Atomic Age, and the Civil Rights Era. To access these years, you need to visit the library to use microfilm. This often makes locating information difficult when the date of an article isn't known. The microfilm is not indexed or keyword searchable. It is very different than using an internet search engine. With this trial, we are offering digital access to the Journal and Sentinel for library users to access information in a more user-friendly format and to give us feedback on their use of the resources.

The trial will run from February 14 through April 15. Please call us in the North Carolina Collection, 336-703-3070, to let us know that you find these resources useful.
