Forsyth County names new Community and Economic Development director

Kirby Robinson has been promoted to Community and Economic Development director for Forsyth County Government, effective August 17.

Robinson has been employed with Forsyth County for more than 12 years. He started as deputy tax collector in 2012, before becoming the General Services property manager in 2014 and General Services deputy director in 2018. He also served on the State of North Carolina Building Commission from 2016-2022, helping oversee the state's capital repair and renewal programs and lobbying the state legislature for additional funding and staff for the State Construction office.

Robinson emerged as the top candidate after the county conducted a nationwide search. In his new position, he heads a department that includes the county’s economic development, affordable housing, code enforcement and workforce development programs.

"I am thankful to County management for the opportunity to serve as the next Community and Economic Development Director,” said Robinson. “I've been fortunate in my career to have worked with such talented and dedicated public servants and I am humbled by this new challenge. Forsyth County is my home, and I look forward to serving the community, county employees and the Board of Commissioners for many years to come."

He succeeds Kyle Haney, who became deputy county manager on August 1.

"Kirby is an amazing public servant and passionate about making an impact in Forsyth County,” said Haney. “He's demonstrated leadership throughout his time with Forsyth County and I'm incredibly excited for the impact he is going to make in this community as the new Community & Economic Development director."
