Deputy Johnson and Pfc. Thrush displayed a courageous act on Friday April 16, 2010 when they entered a dorm saving the life of an inmate when weapons were involved. These officers reacted quickly and promptly subduing both inmates before serious injuries were inflicted upon the inmate. The special response team responded immediately but Deputy Johnson and Pfc. Thrush were the first to arrive on the scene.

They witnessed an inmate, which weighed approximately 280 pounds, chasing another inmate which weighed approximately 125 pounds with a broom handle. The much smaller inmate was running for his life as the larger inmate continued to pursue him with the broom handle. The inmate was bleeding from the right side of his face. The smaller inmate jumped to the lower level to avoid being struck again by the much larger inmate. The smaller inmate managed to secure himself under the stairwell for safety as the larger inmate attempted to strike him with a chair. Deputy Johnson nd Pfc. Thrush immediately entered the dorm subduing the inmate and successfully disarmed him.
