October Enforcement Staff Members of the Month

The School Resource Division Supervision proudly nominates Deputy Jaylan Lassiter and Deputy Carlos Mena for the esteemed title of Sworn Officer of the Month for October 2025. Working as a dedicated team at Parkland High School, both deputies face the unique challenges that come with serving in a high-volume educational environment. Their unwavering commitment to fostering a secure and supportive atmosphere for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors is evident in their daily interactions and vigilant presence on campus. On October 30, 2025, their attentiveness and proactive approach were put to the test when they received an urgent tip regarding a potential weapon on school grounds. Without hesitation, Deputies Lassiter and Mena sprang into action, demonstrating their training and professionalism in a critical situation. Their quick response led them to successfully locating two handguns, thereby preventing a potentially dangerous scenario from escalating. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, they promptly contacted Juvenile Justice authorities and collaboratively worked to get a secure custody order for Weapon on Educational Property, ensuring that they were safely removed from the premises. Their decisive actions not only safeguarded the well-being of the students and staff but also reinforced the invaluable role of School Resource Officers in maintaining a peaceful school environment. Deputy Lassiter and Deputy Mena’s dedication and teamwork exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement, making them truly deserving of this recognition.
