Purpose

Region I Aging Advisory Council was established by Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging as part of a federal mandate under the Older Americans Act of 1965. The purpose and mission of Region I Aging Advisory Council is to promote quality of life for all older adults (60+) who live in the service area which includes Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. Council members serve as advocates and spokespersons for older adults residing in their representative counties. They provide input into evaluating policies, programs and actions that affect older adults and make recommendations to the Area Agency on Aging staff concerning federal and state aging funds, issues and initiatives affecting the 60+ population in the region.

Members

Members must reside within Forsyth County and have no conflict of interest.

Four (4) representatives are appointed by County Commissioners for a three year term and can be reappointed for two additional three year terms. The composition of Region I Aging Advisory Council consists of persons age 60 and older, local elected officials, family caregivers, participants in the Home and Community Care Block Grant program, minority representatives, and the general public.

Meetings

Meetings are held bi-monthly on the second Friday of the month at 1:00 PM at the offices of the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
