Library to Screen The Journey of August King

The 4th Thursday Book Club of Central Library will present the movie The Journey of August King, based on the novel by John Ehle, as part of the Library’s Black History Month programming. A discussion of the book will also be held.

Set in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, this passionate uplifting celebration of the human spirit received outstanding acclaim from critics. North Carolina pioneer August King risks everything to help a slave woman on a courageous and very dangerous search for a new life. Desperate yet determined, the two set out on a harrowing journey toward freedom . . . and find in each other the strength to overcome incredible odds. The The Journey of August King is a lyrical and inspiring story you don’t want to miss.

Movie screening: Sunday, February 22nd at 2:30 pm (Central Library Auditorium)
Book Club Discussion: Thursday, February 26th at 12:30 pm (Central Library)
