8th Grader Selected for Poet Project!

Forsyth County Public Library is pleased to host a poetry reading for the Gilbert-Chapell Distinguished Poet Project of the North Carolina Poetry Society. The original idea of pairing distinguished North Carolina poets with young people in middle school, high school, and college in a mentoring collaboration came from former NC poet laureate Fred Chappell and was funded initially by Marie Gilbert, poet and past president of the North Carolina Poetry Society. The North Carolina Center for the Book funds the joint poet/student public library readings in order to support libraries in their role as community cultural centers and to celebrate North Carolina poets and their Art. For more information, please visit the North Carolina Poetry Society website.

We are particularly delighted to announce that Jeremy Sexton from Rural Hall is the middle school student selected by the Project to be mentored by distinguished poet Dr. Catherine Carter of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. The poetry reading will be held at the Central Library Auditorium at 660 West 5th Street on Sunday, May 17th, at 1:15 PM. Questions and answers and a book signing will follow the reading. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, email Candace Brennan or call 336-703-3053.
