The award, which recognizes an individual in the community who has made a significant contribution to regional and cultural history, is presented annually by the Wachovia Historical Society. She is also the Library's Photographic Collection Librarian and is the curator and researcher of the Frank B. Jones Jr. Photographic Collection of which she has done extensive research of each photograph in the collection from 1940 to the 1970's.

Rawls is also a published author including Winston-Salem in Vintage Postcards, Winston-Salem From the Collection of Frank B. Jones, Winston-Salem Then and Now and Old Salem and Salem College (Postcard History).
