Daria Peoples-Riley to Discuss "This Is It"

When Daria Peoples-Riley heard her daughter, Jonah Marie, say that she wanted to become a classically-trained ballerina, Peoples-Riley kept thinking about the odds against an African American young woman in a field where women of color are underrepresented.

Those feelings led Peoples-Riley to write and illustrate “This Is It,” a book about about an aspiring dancer that celebrates self-expression and dance. Peoples-Riley, who lives in Las Vegas, will be in Winston-Salem Nov. 16-17 to talk about her book. Her appearance is sponsored by the Forsyth County Public Library system and Bookmarks and includes three events:

Friday, Nov. 16, 3:30 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium. Peoples-Riley will discuss her book and how she came to get it published.

Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. Central Library Auditorium. Peoples-Riley will read her book at storytime. Afterwards, there will be a ballerina dance party for aspiring ballerinas.

Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Reynolda Manor Branch. Peoples-Riley will read her book at storytime.
