The Food and Nutrition Services program provides monthly benefits, meant to supplement the food budget of low income families. The amount of benefits received depends on the number of people in the household and the amount of monthly income determined after certain deductions are subtracted. Families that begin work or are working may be or continue to be eligible for benefits.

Benefits are issued monthly by an electronic benefits card. This card is used like a bank debit card. Each time during the month that you use your card the amount of your purchase is automatically deducted from your benefit balance. After each purchase your receipt will show the amount of your remaining benefit balance for the month.

Applications are taken Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm at the Department of Social Services located at 741 N. Highland Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC. Applications can also be made at https://epass.nc.gov/
