Lynne Johnson, Register of Deeds

Lynne Johnson serves as Forsyth County’s Register of Deeds.

Johnson grew up in Wilson, NC. She came to Winston-Salem to attend college at Winston-Salem State University, where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in English in 1982. She began working at the Register of Deeds Office in 1986 in an entry-level Deputy Register of Deeds position in the Real Estate department, later becoming Micrographics Manager and Supervisor of the Vital Records division. She worked at the office for more than 27 years before going to work at the Forsyth County Clerk of Superior Court Office until she was elected Register of Deeds in 2016.

Johnson says she tries to put herself in the place of the customers on the other side of the counter, and encourages everyone who works at the Register of Deeds Office to put good customer service first.

“Our approach to serving the public is to be professional, courteous, and efficient,” said Johnson.

The Register of Deeds Office is located on the second floor of the Forsyth County Government Center. It records, manages and preserves real estate records, vital information on birth, death and marriage certificates, and military service records. It’s also where the notary oath commission is administered. The office also issues the Thank a Veteran Discount Card that lets veterans receive discounts at more than 100 participating local businesses.
